Park Yoga Celebrates Successful First Season in Bolton with Over 1,200 Attendances at Queens Park
Bolton’s first ever Park Yoga programme has been hailed a huge success, recording an impressive 1,246 attendances across 25 weeks from 3rd May – 18th October.
Delivered as part of Active Bolton’s commitment to creating accessible opportunities for residents to get active, the Spring / Summer 2026 programme has exceeded expectations, attracting consistently strong attendances and overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants.
Despite the unpredictable British weather and several sessions being affected by rain and poor conditions, the programme consistently achieved an average attendance of approximately 50 participants per week. At its peak, an impressive 92 people attended a single session, demonstrating its popularity.
Beyond the physical benefits of yoga, the weekly sessions have also helped to support mental wellbeing, encourage social connections and introduce more people to one of Bolton’s much loved green spaces.
Following the success of the initial 20-week programme, an additional five sessions were announced, extending the sessions through to the October half-term period.
Instructor Jo Gallagher was greeted by a spontaneous round of applause when she shared this with the group, providing a fitting reflection of just how much the sessions have come to mean to those attending.
Jo Gallagher, Park Yoga Instructor, said:
“Delivering yoga in the beautiful outdoor surroundings of Queens Park has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. Seeing so many people turn up week after week, whatever the weather, has been truly remarkable.
“It’s been wonderful to watch people come together, enjoy being active outdoors and experience the physical and mental wellbeing benefits that yoga can bring. The enthusiasm and commitment from everyone attending have made this programme really special.”
Stuart Kay, Sport & Communities Director, said:
“Bringing Park Yoga to Bolton for the very first time has been an incredibly positive experience. The response from our local community has been fantastic, and to achieve over 1,200 attendances demonstrates just how valuable free, accessible activities like this are to our residents.
“It’s particularly pleasing to see so many people making use of Queens Park, connecting with others and taking positive steps towards improving their health and wellbeing.
“The success of this programme gives us a fantastic platform to build upon, and we’re already looking forward to what we can achieve next year.”
Park Yoga has firmly established itself as a popular addition to Bolton’s community activity offer, highlighting the importance of providing free, inclusive and accessible opportunities that encourage residents of all abilities to get active, improve their wellbeing and enjoy their local outdoor spaces.
