Active Bolton Launches Free Park Yoga as Part of New Health and Wellbeing Focus across Bolton.
Active Bolton was awarded the Leisure Services contract in Bolton as the management agent on behalf of Bolton Council.
As Active Bolton embark on a 10-year Health and Wellbeing strategy committed to increasing physical activity levels across Bolton they will launch free Park Yoga Sessions in Bolton for the first time.
This is just the start of Active Bolton’s commitment and forms part of a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Fund, designed to support community-based projects that encourage more residents to get active.
This is the first initiative to be delivered through this fund in partnership with Park Yoga UK, the first session will take place Sunday 3rd May at Queens Park behind the Pavillion Café just off Park Road.
Residents in Bolton will be able to enjoy free outdoor yoga sessions every Sunday morning at 9:30am, running from the beginning of May through to mid-September. Sessions taking place in Queen’s Park and are open to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or previous experience.
Park Yoga is a national charity that delivers, inclusive outdoor yoga sessions in over 60 towns and cities across England. The sessions aim to bring communities together in a relaxed and welcoming environment, helping people connect with nature, improve wellbeing, and meet new people.
Cathi Farrer-Mitchell, Director of Park Yoga, said:
“As a charity, we want Park Yoga to be as accessible as possible—there’s no need to book and it’s completely free to attend. Last year, 31% of our participants had never done yoga before, so you certainly won’t be alone if you’re new.
You don’t need any specific equipment—just a yoga mat if you have one, but a blanket or towel works perfectly. Come along and give it a go—you won’t regret it!”
Neil Hutchinson, Director of Active Bolton, said:
“As a charity dedicated to supporting health and wellbeing across Bolton, it’s vital that we provide as many opportunities as possible for people to be active in our green spaces. Supporting the Park Yoga project in Queen’s Park is a first for Bolton and an exciting step forward.
The concept is similar to Parkrun in that it’s completely free and open to everyone, giving people the chance to come together and enjoy being active in a welcoming, central location.”

Park Yoga is supported by Yogi Tea, who will be offering free samples from their range of herbal teas throughout the summer.
Irene Ippolito, Brand Director for Yogi Tea at Euro Food Brands, added:
“I’m truly delighted about this partnership between Yogi Tea and Park Yoga—two organisations united by shared values of mindfulness, wellbeing, and community. It’s a privilege to support a charity that makes yoga freely accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Together, we’re creating space for individuals to connect with themselves and their communities.”
Park Yoga will take place in Queen’s Park, which offers free parking and café facilities for those who wish to enjoy a drink after the session. While sessions will go ahead in light rain, any cancellations due to poor weather will be communicated at least one hour in advance via the Park Yoga Bolton Facebook page and website.
