Active Bolton Arena Hosts Second Annual Bolton Cares Festival of Sport

· Tom Giblin

Active Bolton Arena welcomed over 100 people from Bolton Cares (Bolton’s largest provider of adult social care) for the second annual Bolton Cares Festival of Sport, bringing together people from a range of services for a fun-filled day of sporting activities.

The event was honoured by the attendance of The Mayor of Bolton Councillor Mohammed Iqbal and The Mayoress of Bolton, Sayda, who joined participants and staff in celebrating the importance of sport, activity and inclusion within the community.

Also attending was Councillor Debbie Newall, Executive Cabinet Member for Culture, who helped support the event, which featured a sporting programme that included dodgeball, basketball, boccia, football and roller skating. Participants fully embraced the opportunity to get active, try new sports and enjoy the day together.

A Special Visit from Lofty the Lion

Adding to the excitement was a very special guest from Bolton Wanderers Football Club – Lofty the Lion.

Lofty joined participants during the event and helped present medals to everyone who took part, providing a fantastic way to recognise their participation and achievements throughout the day.

Stuart Kay, Sport & Communities Director at Active Bolton Arena, said:

“It’s such a special day to see over 100 people participating in a variety of sports and activities. The Festival of Sport gives people from different services the opportunity to come together, have a go at something new and enjoy being active in a fun and welcoming environment.”

“Having Lofty the Lion join us was a fantastic addition to the day. Seeing everyone receive their medals and having the opportunity to get photographs with Lofty was brilliant, and it really added to the celebration.”

“We’re incredibly proud of how the event has grown, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s festival.”
