Bolton Arena Women’s Walking Football Squads Shine in National Championships

Last weekend, the Bolton Arena women’s walking football squads embarked on a journey to Nottingham with their sights set on national 6-A-Side titles. Both the 40s and 50s teams delivered outstanding performances, showcasing their skills and determination.
40s Triumph in Style
The 40s squad kicked off their campaign on Saturday, facing new opposition in Norwich, Leyton Orient, Sleaford, and Plymouth. Demonstrating excellent teamwork and strategy, Bolton emerged as group winners. In a tense semi-final against Forest Vets, a single goal secured their place in the final against Plymouth Argyle, whom they had previously defeated 3-0 in the group stages. Bolton cruised to a 2-0 victory in the final, lifting the trophy for the third consecutive year.
A massive shout-out goes to goalkeeper Jo Phillips, who maintained a clean sheet throughout the day, and to manager Gary Jackson, who expertly guided the team from the sidelines.
50s Battle Through Tough Competition
The 50s squad faced a challenging test on Sunday, competing in searing heat against some of the best sides in the UK. They began with a respectable draw against Cheshunt before finding their form, scoring an impressive 13 goals in their next four games.
This stellar performance secured their place at the top of the table and set up a semi-final clash against Forest Vets. Mac Barlow sealed the win in a tightly contested match, leading to a repeat of last year’s final against Birmingham.
Despite playing the better football and controlling large parts of the game, Bolton was unable to equalise after Birmingham took the lead. The match ended with Bolton earning a highly deserved silver medal.
Special recognition goes to players Hankinson, Lowe, Kenyon, Walsh, Mechen, Reynolds, Barlow, and Entwistle for their outstanding efforts and making Bolton proud.
With another trophy and a silver medal, Bolton continues to be a dominant force in women’s walking football and rightly so, seen by many as the best squad in the country.
